Abstract :
Our study tried to shed light on how the ego and the other are embodied in the
novel Beirut Nightmares, which is considered one of the most important writings
written by Ghada Al-Samman, in which she realistically conveyed the suffering of
the Lebanese people, especially the people of Beirut during the civil war, so this
duality had to appear in the lines of the novel. Because of the conflict and clash that
was between the ego (the people of Beirut) and the other (the enemy), and this is one
of the points that we studied in our research under the title of the relationship of the
ego to the other. . We have also mentioned several definitions in order to establish a
clear concept of duality. As for the manifestations of the ego and the other in the
nightmares of Beirut, they were characterized by difference and contrast, especially
the ego.
Key words : ego – the other – heterosescwal – we - the relationship between
the ego and the other – the east - the west.
