However, it marked some notable stations such as historical and comparative linguistics in the 19th century during which its pioneers studied language throughout time. This was achieved through investigating change in language and also comparing linguistic phenomena in linguistic families in order to detect the origin of every variety. The most notable attempt was initiated by the brothers Schlegel who made great contributions in studying German and investigating its origin and also providing linguistic theories that analysed languages (inflectional, isolating and affixal).
