Abstract:
In VANETs, each vehicle periodically exchanges sensitive data such as its position and speed with neighboring vehicles. However, this information exchange raises a privacy issue related to the potential tracking of vehicles and, by extension, drivers. To address this traceability problem, strategies involving regular changing of vehicle pseudonyms have been proposed to prevent their illegal tracking.
In this context, we propose a new approach to pseudonym changing based on cooperation among neighboring vehicles. Our strategy enables simultaneous pseudonym changes for a large number of neighboring vehicles, thereby providing enhanced protection against tracking. Simulation results conducted under PREXT demonstrate that our approach significantly minimizes vehicle traceability, both in dense and sparse networks. This cooperative solution thus improves privacy protection in VANETs
