Investigating the Challenges Faced by Algerian PhD Researchers in Conducting and Publishing Scientific Research in English: The Case of STEM PhD Researchers at Mohamed El Bachir El Ibrahimi University – Bordj Bou Arreridj

ABSTRACT In the evolving global academic landscape, English has emerged as the dominant language for scientific communication,posingsignificantchallengesfornon-nativespeakers.Thisstudyexploresthedifficulties encountered by STEM PhD researchers at Mohamed El Bachir EL Ibrahimi University, Bordj Bou Arreridj in Algeria in conducting and publishing their research in English. The research adopted a phenomenologicaldesigntoexplorethelivedexperiencesofdoctoralresearchersregardingthechallenges of writing and publishing in English. In-depth semi-structured interviews were conducted with 21 PhD candidates from the Departments of Science and Technology, Mathematics, and Computer Sciences. Thematicanalysisrevealedaconstellationofchallengesincludinglinguisticbarriers,lackofmentorship, limited access to English-language resources, and difficulties adhering to international publication standards.ThefindingsIndicatedthattheseobstaclessignificantlyAffectedtheresearchers’productivity, confidence,andpublicationsuccess.Despitethesechallenges,participantsadoptedcopingstrategiessuch aspeersupport,translationtools,andinformallearningnetworks.ThisstudyHighlightedtheurgentneed forinstitutional supportsystemsandtargetedlanguage trainingprogramstoempowerAlgerianresearchers and facilitate their integration into the global scientific community. Key words: Scientific Communication, Non-native English Speakers,STEM PhD Researchers, Language Barriers,Academic Publishing. ملخص تركّز هذه الدّراسة على التّحديات التي يواجهها طلبة الدّكتوراه في العلوم والتكنولوجيا والهندسة والرياضيات في جامعة برج بوعريريجعند إجراء بحوثهم العلميّة ونشرها باللّغة الإنجليزية. تهدف الدّراسة إلى تحديد الصّعوبات المحدّدة التي يواجهها هؤلاء الباحثون في الكتابةوالنّشر، وتقييم تأثير هذه العقبات على تقدّمهم البحثي ونجاحهم، ودراسة الاستراتيجيات المستخدمة للتغلب على هذه التّحديات. تعتمدالمنهجيّة المتّبعة على منهجية نوعية بحتة، حيث أُجريت مقابلات شبه منظمة ومتعمقة مع 21 طالب دكتوراه في التّخصصات المذكورة،تلاها تحليل موضوعي للبيانات المجمّعة، حيث أظهرت النتائج أن الباحثين يواجهون عوائق لغوية وأكاديمية كبيرة ناجمة عن ضعف إتقاناللّغة الإنجليزية وعدم الإلمام بمعايير النّشر الدّولية، مما يؤثر سلبًا على جودة أبحاثهم وفرص نشرها. تُبرز الدّراسة الحاجة الملحّة إلىتعزيز الدّعم الأكاديمي لتطوير مهارات الكتابة العلمية باللّغة الإنجليزية لدى الباحثين الجزائريين. كما تؤكد على الدّور الحيوي للكتابةالعلميّة الأكاديمية كوسيلة فعّالة للتواصل الدّولي، وتوصي بإدخال برامج تعليميّة متخصّصة تهدف إلى تمكين الباحثين من تجاوز الحواجزاللّغوية والثّقافية، مما يسهم في رفع مكانة البحث العلمي الجزائري على المستوى العالمي. الكلمات المفتاحية: طلبة الدكتوراه في العلوم والتكنولوجيا والهندسة والرياضيات، التحديات اللغوية، الكتابة العلمية، النشر الأكاديمي، الدعمالأكاديمي.
