The study of the diet of the House Martin is performed through the analysis of 30 droppings
collected in the area of Bordj Bou Arreridj. It appears from this study that this Swallow is
considered an insectivorous bird of choice with a consumption rate of insect equal to 99.7%.
The review of droppings also reveals that Hymenoptera (A.R. = 66.5%) contribute
significantly in the diet Delichon urbica. Within this order, the family Formicidae ranks first
with (A.R. = 62.4%), whose species is best represented Plagiolepis sp. (A.R. = 19.6%),
followed by Tetramorium biskrensis (A.R. = 18.9%) and Pheidole pallidula (A.R. = 7.2%) |
