Abstract

Algerian legislation adopts several legal mechanisms to combat corruption, most notably Law No. 06-01 on the Prevention and Combating of Corruption. The state has established the National Authority for the Prevention and Combating of Corruption and is given broad powers to investigate and prosecute. The role of the judiciary has also been strengthened and specialized sections have been allocated to combat financial crimes. The law requires officials to declare property to ensure transparency. International cooperation mechanisms are adopted to trace smuggled funds. Reporting of corruption is encouraged while providing protection to whistleblowers. These mechanisms aim to protect public funds and consolidate the principles of integrity in the conduct of public affairs.
