dc.description.abstract | ABSTRACT This dissertation investigates the English language needs of nursing students at Al Idjtihad Private School of nursing in Bordj Bou Arreridj, Algeria. The study addresses two main research questions: the importance of investigating English for nursing in Algeria and recommendations for designing a suitable syllabus for nursing students at BBA institutions. An exploratory single- site case study design was employed to provide in-depth insights. Utilizing both qualitative and quantitative research methods, including a structured questionnaire and focus group discussions, data were collected from 28 nursing students, using purposive sampling. The findings reveal a strong interest among students in learning English, emphasizing the need for a specialized course that integrates general language skills and specific medical terminology. Key recommendations for syllabus design include focusing on medical vocabulary, enhancing communication skills, and employing interactive teaching methods such as role-playing and simulations. The study concludes that a tailored English for Specific Purposes (ESP) course is essential for nursing students to effectively meet the demands of their academic and professional environments. These findings underscore the necessity of developing a comprehensive English syllabus for nursing students in Algeria, facilitating better patient care and professional communication within the healthcare sector.
