Abstract


Abstract This study investigates students’ perceptions of using English-Medium Instruction (EMI) at the higher education level. For that purpose, a questionnaire, adapted from the relevant literature, was used to collect data using convenient sampling that consists of ( N° 30) first year students in the faculty of Science and Technology at Mohamed El Bachir El Ibrahimi University, Bordj Bou Arreridj, Algeria. A mixed-methods approach was used to analyze data using frequencies and percentage. Results showed that many participants demonstrate a strong desire to enhance their English skills due to its necessity in the present day. They perceive that EMI is essential in today's context and support its use in all Algerian universities. They see that English should be implemented as a medium of instruction. However, They encounter challenges in fully expressing themselves and understanding lectures in English, which they believe hinders classroom communication due to the language barrier.This study contributes to the broader understanding of EMI implementation and its implications for students in Algerian higher education institutions.
